Identifying, Cultivating, & Supporting Emerging Young African Women Leaders
YAWL will offer a two-year program that runs across two consecutive summers, offering structured training, professional exposure, and hands-on leadership development.
Across Africa, many young women demonstrate the talent and motivation to lead social, economic, and health-driven change.
Too often, however, they lack access to structured mentorship, leadership training, and professional networks needed to translate potential into impact.
The Young African Women’s Leadership Program, YAWL, is a selective leadership fellowship for high-potential students and recent graduates. Fellows will gain hands-on leadership training, sector exposure, and long-term mentorship to prepare them for leadership roles across health, governance, technology, and entrepreneurship.
YAWL will launch as a pilot program in Kisumu, Kenya, with the long-term goal of building a pan-African network of women leaders grounded in integrity, service, and collaboration.

” The action plan will also include capacity building activities to raise awareness and advocate for more women’s representation in relief and recovery decision-making with regard to COVID19″

Women remain underrepresented in leadership positions across Africa. This gap limits innovation, weakens institutions, and constrains long-term development.
By supporting and investing in women at a formative stage in their careers, YAWL aims to create long-term ripple effects across communities and sectors.
